CELEBRATIONS IN AND AROUND WESTPORT

WESTPORT LOVES CELEBRATIONS!! WE WENT TO AN OYSTER CELEBRATION THE FIRST WEEKEND IN MAY, HELD AT THE OCOSTA COMMUNITY HALL. I HAD FRIED OYSTERS, STEAMED OYSTERS, AND OYSTER STEW. MY FIRST TIME TO EAT STEAMED OYSTERS AND OYSTER STEW. IT WAS DELICIOUS!
FOR THE NON- OYSTER EATING FOLKS , THEY HAD SPAGHETTI.......DARRELL HAD THE SPAGHETTI.
ONE NICE, WARM SUNNY DAY, I TOOK MAGGIE AND MARLEE OVER TO THE TENTING AREA OF THE RV PARK TO PLAY BALL AND  TO TAKE THEM OFF THEIR LEASHES.

MARLEE LOVED TO STAND ON THE PICNIC TABLE....SHE COULD SEE MORE OF WHAT WAS GOING ON.

IT IS A LARGE, WIDE OPEN AREA, AWAY FROM EVERYBODY, PERFECT FOR BALL THROWING AND RUNNING!!

WE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME!!!

BEFORE LONG, I WAS CRAVING OYSTERS AGAIN.....SO,  WE DROVE DOWN TO PIER 8 FOR FRESH-OUT-OF-THE-SEA OYSTERS!!!

THEY ALSO HAVE A TANK FULL OF VERY-MUCH-ALIVE CRABS.

WE GOT OUR OYSTERS AND WENT HOME TO FRY THEM UP.

I FIXED THEM LIKE GERRY TOLD ME TO AND YUM!!!! THEY WERE DELICIOUS!!

ON MAY 29TH THE SECOND WORKAMPER POT LUCK WAS HELD, THIS TIME THE THEME WAS ITALIAN....DELICIOUS AGAIN!!!

LOTS AND LOTS OF GOOD FOOD!!!

IT FINALLY WARMED UP ENOUGH ONE DAY SO COULD GET IN THE POOL.

THEY KEEP THE POOL AT 86 DEGREES....IT WAS NICE AND WARM AND FELT SO GOOD!!

ANOTHER DAY WE DROVE OVER TO GRAYLAND TO FIND THE CRANBERRIES. THIS AREA  IS CALLED THE CRANBERRY COAST. WE KNEW WE WERE GETTING CLOSE.....

AND THEN CRANBERRIES FIELDS......

THEY HAVE A TRACK THAT RUNS THROUGH THE FIELDS  THAT THIS LITTLE WAGON ROLLS ON.

WE WENT TO THE CRANBERRY MUSEUM AND GOT SOME CRANBERRY HISTORY AND LEARNED THAT THERE IS A DRY METHOD AND A WET METHOD OF HARVESTING CRANBERRIES.

MOST OF THE HARVESTING IS DONE DRY BECAUSE THE WET METHOD MEANS THE BERRIES CAN ONLY BE USED TO MAKE JUICE AND JELLY.

THE CRANBERRIES WON'T BE READY UNTIL OCTOBER......AND GUESS WHAT......ANOTHER CELEBRATION!!!!

I FOUND ME A SMALL CHURCH TO ATTEND AND I FEEL SO AT HOME THERE, IT FEELS LIKE I'VE BEEN GOING THERE FOR YEARS, NOT FOR JUST A FEW MONTHS.

THE FOLKS ARE VERY NICE AND WELCOMED ME.  I MET SOME  NICE LADIES AND FELLOW MASTER GARDENERS.
