MY BIRTHDAY :APRIL 23, 2010

I had the most PERFECT birthday a person could have!!! At 9:00 in the morning we had a dress rehearsal for our play HAWKSHAW THE DETECTIVE.  In the morning when I got up and turned on my computer, I had Happy Birthday messages from both my sons!! The dress rehearsal went quite smoothly, actually enjoyable! Darrell took the day off from work and videotaped the play, and then afterwards everyone sang Happy Birthday to me!! Then Darrell took me to Red Lobster and I had the most delicious lobster!!!  We came home and rested a few hours, got a delivery of flowers from Jacob and birthday cards from both my sons and several friends sent cards. The flowers are beautiful!

And then my new laptop was delivered, another gift from my husband.......he had already bought me a dozen roses, and they are also beautiful!

And then on to the play at 6:00, the Community Hall was overflowing! Over 100 people came to the melodrama and booed and hissed  the villian, threw popcorn at the villian and by the laughter we heard just generally had a good time! I knew my lines very well, but I think I had a touch of stage fright, because, while I am waiting to go on, I have no idea what I'm supposed to say........ thank God they came to me!!We were all thrilled that the original Hawkshaw was able to come,  in her wheelchair after breaking her ankle at one of the practices in March.

After the play everyone sang Happy Birthday to me again and then Rachelle and Donna took me down to the Gas Light for some demon rum (not really, we just had a beer) and some egg rolls. I can't remember a more delightful birthday!!

MADD DASH

On Sunday, April 18, at 1:00, Darrell and I walked the Madd Dash  along the Bike Path in Rapid, Clint and Nikki ran it.It was a 5K Walk/Run, all the proceeds went to the Madd organization in Rapid City. It was a  beautiful day and approximately 200 people  entered the Run/Walk. There were lots of prizes awarded and Clint took Third Place in his age group. Congratulations Clint!! Nikki ran the race, her first time, and she did awesome!!! Congratulations Nikki!!! Darrell and I were just glad we weren't last and finished with a pretty good rate of walking at 15 minutes per mile. We went to McDonald's for lunch and had a good visit before Clint and Nikki had to drive home..it  was a fun day!!

THIRD RUMMAGE SALE OF 2010

On Saturday, April 17, we rented a table at the Rapid Valley Methodist Church again, we were there in January 2010. The sale was from 8:00 to 1:00 and was another huge success!! We sold alot of "stuff" and made a little money! There was a steady crowd of people the whole time. The church sold their delicious cinnamon rolls again, and we had hot dogs for lunch. We had a little bit of "stuff" to pack up, but not nearly what we had brought out. Our total receipts was $265.00. It was a nice day of work and best of all we got rid of more "stuff". Looking forward and planning for the May sale at the Community Hall in Rockerville.

DARRELL'S DAY OFF

Darrell took a vacation day today and we went fishing at Horsethief Lake. We got there about 7:00 this morning, and were lucky enough to have the whole lake to ourselves until we left at 10:30. It was so quiet and peaceful, and Darrell was lucky enough to catch fish!!  He more than caught his limit, but we only kept four fish, he caught one really beautiful, fat rainbow trout.

Catching the fish were quite a challenge, the fish would bite so lightly, you hardly knew you were getting a bite, but this guy was hungry and bit it hard and there was no doubt that you had a fish. What a great day we
had!

APRIL FOOL'S 4 MILER RUN/WALK

Today, Saturday, April 3, we entered our third Run/Walk of the year.  The April Fool's 4 Miler began at Memorial Park, we walked the bike path to Canyon Lake Drive, turned around and walked back.  We started at 10:00, temperatures were in the low  40's, we knew right away we had dressed too warmly  with our long winter underwear and  we started shedding jackets almost immediately. Our time was 1 hour, 1 minute, 46 seconds. We started  in last place which we won't do again, and worked our way up to 5th from last, beating 4 women, a man and a Minpin. We joined the Black Hills Runner's Club today and are looking forward to the next Run/Walk, which will be Sunday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m.. The Madd Dash is a 5 K Run/Walk and proceeds will go to Mother's Against Drunk Drivers. It will start at Storybook Island and follow the bike path.

Second Rummage Sale of 2010

Saturday, March 27 we had our second rummage sale of 2010. We rented the Community Hall from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. After getting off to a slow start (no buyers at 8:00), we had the best day selling in all the rummage sales we've had. We made $446.00, and  sold so much stuff!! We never had a rush of people, but it was steady all day long and the folks were buying!!  We even had folks still coming when we were packing up. It was great to be able to set up enough tables so we could display the items nicely.

Looking forward to our next one, we've rented a table at the Rapid Valley Methodist Church on  April 17 and then we've rented two tables at the Community Hall  on May 1st.

Jacob's Visit

Jacob arrived for his annual traditional March ice fishing trip on Friday morning  March 19 at 9:44 a.m.  from Minneapolis/St. Paul airport (the only way to travel). After a nice lunch, he and his Dad took off for Deerfield Lake for an afternoon of ice fishing. The ice is still 20 inches thick. They only caught one fish, but had a great time! We just hung out the rest of the day, I had planned on building a fire in the firepit and roasting marshmellows and hot dogs, but Darrell thought it was too cold  (I'm sure it had nothing to do with the basketball games on TV).

On Saturday morning I had us signed up for the Dublin Dash, a 5K (3 mile) Walk/Run sponsored by the School of Mines. We met Nikki and Clint at 8:30 a.m., Clint had been up all night sick, throwing up, stomach ache, but he wanted to run with his brother, so he ran, didn't feel very good, but he did it! Nikki, Darrell and I walked it and were happy that we had beaten our time for the February Freeze. Then, we all came out to the house and had lunch, Clint ate a little and started feeling a little better, but by 4:00 his stomach was hurting again, so he finally gave in and they went home so he could go to bed.
We planned on going ice fishing very early Sunday morning, Jacob wanted to see the sun rise, but it was so cloudy we could hardly tell when the sun came over the hill.

The weather was very nice, a little cold in the early morning hours, but by 10:00, we were shedding clothes. The fish were biting, but very slowly, Darrell caught two really nice size trout, which we kept. We figured if we stayed there all day, we could probably catch our limit, but by noon we were hungry and decided to come home and eat our nice steak dinner.

We just hung out the rest of the day, watching TV, taking naps (ME) and went to bed early as Jacob's plane left at 6:30 a.m. We all agreed we had managed to do alot of stuff in the 3 short days Jacob was here. It was fun,  and we always look forward to the March ice fishing trips.
