Jacob's Visit

Jacob arrived for his annual traditional March ice fishing trip on Friday morning  March 19 at 9:44 a.m.  from Minneapolis/St. Paul airport (the only way to travel). After a nice lunch, he and his Dad took off for Deerfield Lake for an afternoon of ice fishing. The ice is still 20 inches thick. They only caught one fish, but had a great time! We just hung out the rest of the day, I had planned on building a fire in the firepit and roasting marshmellows and hot dogs, but Darrell thought it was too cold  (I'm sure it had nothing to do with the basketball games on TV).

On Saturday morning I had us signed up for the Dublin Dash, a 5K (3 mile) Walk/Run sponsored by the School of Mines. We met Nikki and Clint at 8:30 a.m., Clint had been up all night sick, throwing up, stomach ache, but he wanted to run with his brother, so he ran, didn't feel very good, but he did it! Nikki, Darrell and I walked it and were happy that we had beaten our time for the February Freeze. Then, we all came out to the house and had lunch, Clint ate a little and started feeling a little better, but by 4:00 his stomach was hurting again, so he finally gave in and they went home so he could go to bed.
We planned on going ice fishing very early Sunday morning, Jacob wanted to see the sun rise, but it was so cloudy we could hardly tell when the sun came over the hill.

The weather was very nice, a little cold in the early morning hours, but by 10:00, we were shedding clothes. The fish were biting, but very slowly, Darrell caught two really nice size trout, which we kept. We figured if we stayed there all day, we could probably catch our limit, but by noon we were hungry and decided to come home and eat our nice steak dinner.

We just hung out the rest of the day, watching TV, taking naps (ME) and went to bed early as Jacob's plane left at 6:30 a.m. We all agreed we had managed to do alot of stuff in the 3 short days Jacob was here. It was fun,  and we always look forward to the March ice fishing trips.
