Wednesday, February 17,2010, the Rockerville Women's Club met at Thelma Healey's in the Party Room. The club meets once a month during the winter months and has been in existance for many years, although no one knows for sure how long, because this is not a "formal" club. There are no officers, and no one person in charge. It is just a group of women, who get together once a month to enjoy each other's company, share a meal, and a story or two. How it got it's name, Stitch & Bitch, is not known for sure either, I just know of the meetings that I've attended, none of the ladies brought any stitching. This month, however, we practiced our play, HAWKSHAW THE DETECTIVE, a melodrama, that we plan on performing in April in the Community Hall. This is the brainchild of Lily Lund, one of our club members. She has had the play for quite some time, and kept it in the hopes of performing it "some day". Well, "some day" has arrived! She, of course, is the director. It is a morally uplifting melodrama. Eleven of us club members have parts, the rest of the club members will be the support crew. Most of us haven't performed in a play since high school, if then, and are wondering how we will ever learn our parts. We all agreed though, that foremost, this is supposed to be fun, and like all melodramas a mistake will just be another laugh. Some of our members, who have lived in Rockerville most of their lives, remember the nightly shows held in the melodrama theatre in Rockerville during the summer months. The building is still standing, which makes this melodrama even more special.
We all arrived at 10:00 a.m. and spent the next 2 hours saying our parts, either from memory, or from the script. Only one member of the play was absent, which made it a very good practice. We all agreed to meet at Lily's house on Friday morning to have another practice. We were famished after all the hard work, and were served a delicious meal by Thelma Healey and Jean Terwilliger, her co-host. There were several different kinds of salads and delicious desserts.
Afterwards, we all had a good visit, discussed the weather, and some were treated to a tour of Buck and Thelma's new apartment. Pat Tomovick volunteered to have club next month, which will be the third Wednesday of the month, which makes it March 17, 2010.
